Match 1 vs Nigeria

The Boomers Tokyo campaign is off and running, and they started positively with a comfortable 84-67 victory over Nigeria.

A slow start from Australia saw the game evenly poised at 23-all at quarter-time, but the Boomers hit their straps late, winning the last quarter 26-15.

And who lead the way? None other than flag-bearer and Indigenous inspiration Patty Mills, with 25 points, six assists and four steals.

The Boomers will be looking to make it two from two when they take on Italy at 5:20pm AEST on Wednesday.

Match 2 vs Italy

The Boomers did their medal chances no harm in their second outing, clinching an narrow 86-83 triumph over Italy.

Neither side was able to break away throughout the match, but it was Australia who held their nerve late.

Jock Landale and Patty Mills lead the way on the scoring front, with 18 and 16 points respectively. Landale, Aron Baynes and Nic Kay were all crucial rebounders with 7 apiece. And although Matthew Dellavedova and Matisse Thybulle had quiet nights offensively, they proved their worth and then some, playing pivotal defensive games.

Match 3 vs Germany

The Boomers look to be hitting their straps as they head into the quarter finals undefeated following a 89-76 victory over Germany.

The loss of Aron Baynes - who's injured for the remainder of the campaign - will no doubt be a hinderance, but Australia overcame his absence.

It comes as no surprise that Patty Mills, the man that bleeds green and gold, came to the fore in the victory with 24 points.

The Boomers quarter final opponent is yet to be decided, but the match will take place sometime on Tuesday.

Quarter Final vs Argentina

Australia cruised past Argentina 97-59 to book their tickets in the final four.

The Boomers blew the game open late, winning the last quarter 37-11, and Patty Mills lead the way with 18 points.

They'll look to stun Team USA and earn a gold medal match berth at 2:15pm AEST on Thursday.

Semi Final vs USA

A first half blitz had gold medal dreams flooding the minds of Australians far and wide, but it wasn't to be, with Team USA eventually flexing their considerable muscle to storm to a 97-78 victory.

The Boomers lead 45-42 at half-time, with the margin ballooning beyond 10 points throughout the second quarter, and looked poised to stun the basketball heavyweights.

Unfortunately a third quarter capitulation saw America romp the quarter home 32-10 on their way to the 19-point triumph.

Patty Mills and Dante Exum were gallant in the loss, scoring 15 and 14 points respectively.

Australia will be desperate to win their first ever basketball medal in the bronze medal match against Slovenia, tip-off at 9:00pm AEST on Saturday night.

Bronze Medal Match vs Slovenia

The Boomers have made history.

65 years of blood, sweat and tears building basketball in Australia has culminated in a bronze medal at Tokyo 2020.

It's not just a momentous occasion for the squad of 12, but for every man to ever don a Boomers journey.

Patty Mills represents everything it is to be a Boomer, and played like a man possessed. He was unguardable on his way to an inspired 42 points - the most by any man in an Olympic medal match.

107-93 was the final score, with Australia narrowly edging Slovenia in every quarter.

Stalwart Joe Ingles also had plenty to say with 16 points, while the defence of Dante Exum and Matisse Thybulle was pivotal as it has been all tournament.

This victory will inspire the next generation of Australian basketball, and gold is now in the Boomers sights.

Bring on 2024.
